How about a Nobel prize for dolby stereo's inventor?

Saw Slumdog Millionaire the day after the movie bagged eight oscars.
Liked the movie. ARR's music was superb. According to me, this is his best till date. I guess the music would not have been so striking if I had seen the movie at home in a DVD(without home theatre). The dolby stereo effect was mind blowing and I feel whoever invented it deserves a noble prize. :-)

Toddler's brain

My 20 months old son tells all the parts in the body in Tamil when we point out the parts to him and ask "what is this" in tamil. I felt that I should teach him all the parts in English too as that would be easy for him to attend interviews when we put him in a school..I heard these days that when a child is put in the school, whatever the age be, he/she should be well versed with body parts, names of parents, their occupation(eventhough the child would not have any clue what that means), numbers from 1 to 10 et al. Eventhough few parents might not like this idea, they can't see their child lag behind in front of the other "smart" kids and are forced to teach them all the above things at such a tender age...

Coming to the actual incident, I used this method to teach him to tell "eye".
I first asked him "what is this" pointing to his eye.He promptly said "kann".(means eye in english).Then I asked him "what is it called in English". As expected he just blaberred something in his sweet, unrecognizable language.Then I taught him to say "eye".So the next time I followed the above method, he promptly said "eye". I was happy.

On day, sometime after this teaching season, my husbands niece took him to the park. The incident as narrated by my husband's niece.
He saw the moon there and said "nila".(moon in English) Then immediately he also said "moon".Now she wanted to do some experiments with him remembering the fact that he tells eye if we ask him "what is it called in English".So she again asked him "what is it in English pointing to the moon"..He promptly said "eye" to her surprise and she could not but laugh hearing his answer..

When she narrated the whole episode I had a hearty laugh(he was also laughing along with us not knowing that he was the reason for it)and immeditely asked him "what is it" without pointing to anything. Proving her story, he promptly said "eye"..

Toddler's brain is still in the process of developing...Till then we will be getting good reasons to laugh and I get to post some messages.

Whats in a name!!

Yesterday when I was on the way to my office, I saw a car, with a peculiar number on the name plate(11-UN-12, may be united nations project's car, so a number like this) and a caption "Karnataka child labour project". I thought the project name was a misnomer and felt it could have been "Karnataka anti child labour project" or "Karnataka child labour eradication project" or anything of that sort that clearly explains what this project is about..Anyway, what is in the name, if all those child labourers are freed from their work and imparted education through this project.
